“Fikr 10” Conference, which was held in Dubai, under the title: “Arab Spring: What’s Next?”, was concluded yesterday with the distribution of the Arab Creativity Awards during its fifth session in 2011, with the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al Faisal, President of the Arab Thought Foundation. The President congratulated the winners, and thanked everyone who contributed to the Conference and all the attendees.
The winners received their awards valued at 50 U.S. thousand dollars, as well as an honorary shield and the Prize Patent, as follows: Professor Dr. Anwar Munir Batikhi from Jordan (Professor of Water, Soil and Plant Physiology at Jordan University and University of Science and Technology) and Professor. Dr. Youssef Salama Al-Najjar from Jordan (Professor of Energy at the University of Science and Technology), they both equally received their award for their contributions in scientific publishing and local development projects in water and energy fields; they published over 100 scientific articles in regional and international journals.
The Technical Creativity Award was granted to Professor Dr. Yusuf Saad Al-Hayek from Jordan (Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UAE University) for his contribution to theoretical and practical scientific research in biotechnology and its applications in public health and medicine, supported by eight patents worldwide.
Furthermore, Social Creativity Award was given to the Lebanese writer Joureye Talaat Fawaz for her field study under the theme, “The Effect of War: its psychological and educational effects on children”, as it represented a new scientific theme, and was based on a field study of children and the impact of the Lebanese war in 2006 on them.
The writer and poet Mr. Hassan Abdullah from Lebanon was granted the Literary Creativity Award (in the field of children's literature) for his long experience spanning over thirty years. Over the years, he devoted most of his work and productions to children with stories, short poems and songs inspired by Arab heritage and values.
Finally, the Artistic Creativity Award was given to Professor Jawad Al-Asadi from Iraq, a theater director with extensive experience in Arab theatre, focusing on topics such as violence and strife. He seeks to provide a different experience of theatre derived from his personal experience and the suffering endured by the Iraqi people.
In addition, they withheld for this year the Economic and Media Creativity Awards, as well as the Most Important Arabic Book Award, for the limited number of entries nominated for this award.
In conclusion, HRH Prince Khalid Al Faisal closed the ceremony by thanking UAE state, its government and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, for his personal care of “Fikr 10” Conference. He said: “I would like to say to Youth, Adults, Ladies and Gentlemen that the Foundation is yours and the Conference is yours too. So, if we had disagreed on the spring name, we no doubt in this conference announced in a loud voice that the Arab Thought Spring has begun”.
